Democratic lawmaker Ted Lieu points out the glaringly obvious about Jesus Christ and homosexuality

California Democrat Ted Lieu absolutely schooled lawmakers targeting the LGBTQ+ community by presenting what Jesus Christ actually said about homosexuality.
Lieu was speaking before his colleagues on the House floor when he mentioned the “historic  wave of bills targeting [the] rights of LGBTQ+ teens, children and their families” which are being pushed by the GOP.
He also referenced a  Washington Post  article in which some Republicans voiced their fears over the rise of anti-LGBTQ+ bills and how such measures were accompanied by hateful rhetoric.
Then, in a truly monumental moment, Ted Lieu decided to add another layer to the dialogue by referencing the very thing most Republican lawmakers often use to push their vile anti-LGBTQ+ legislation – religion.
“I just thought I would recite for you what Jesus Christ said about homosexuality,” Lieu declared.
Normally, such a statement would be followed by a list of examples or maybe throw in a biblical source as right-wing pundits often do.
But Lieu just stood there at the podium, looking at his fellow lawmakers in complete and utter silence. Nothing, absolutely nothing for about 20 powerful seconds before he yielded the floor.
Lieu’s powerful statement was part of a  one-minute speech  in which House members can address their fellow lawmakers in a short speech before or after the legislative day.
Honestly, the internet was here for Ted Lieu reading his Republican colleagues to filth on what Jesus Christ actually had to say about the LGBTQ+ community.

Conservative lawmakers have introduced a  long line of measures  in statehouses across the US to attack and stigmatise the LGBTQ+ community, with many bills directly targeting trans youth.
At least  18 states  have passed legislation preventing trans children from playing sports with their peers. This year,  Oklahoma  and  Alabama  approved legislation restricting how trans kids can access the correct restroom.
Several statements have banned the provision of gender-affirming care for trans kids, which researchers have argued time and time again is  ‘life-saving’  for gender diverse youth. In April, Alabama became the  first state in the US  to make it a felony for medical professionals to provide such care.
Furthermore, several states have introduced legislation  censoring the discussion of LGBTQ+ issues in schools . Florida was a pioneer on such hateful legislation after virulently anti-LGBTQ+ governor Ron DeSantis  signed the state’s ‘Don’t Say Gay’ bill  into law in March.
Copycat ‘Don’t Say Gay or Trans’ bills have sprung up across the US, and one such piece of legislation was passed into law in  Alabama  alongside several other anti-trans measures.
