Kathy Griffin has revealed Ellen was "furious" after she made disparaging remarks about the daytime TV host.
The pair have been feuding for a while now, and since Griffin made comments in her book the fued has escalated significantly.
"She was furious," Griffin said to Access Hollywood.
The pair had a row over the phone according to Griffin.
"She was really on a rant… 'I don’t have to have anyone on my show I don’t want,'" Griffin said DeGeneres shouted down the phone.
"After the phone call I literally started sobbing," Griffin said.
"At the end of the day, whether we like each other or not, I’m always going to support a woman, over fifty, in the game, and making a great living."
Kathy Griffin previously said DeGeneres "has a mean streak" that is "well known throughout Hollywood".
In Griffin’s book, Celebrity Run-Ins: My A-Z Index, she says: “I’m almost positive a certain beloved daytime talk show host once had me kicked out of a backstage dressing room at the Emmy Awards.
"I can’t prove it, but this person, who has short blonde hair, has a mean streak that all of Hollywood knows about.”
The 56-year-old told US Weekly her feud with DeGeneres began in 2007.
“Ellen did a monologue about how mean I am,” Griffin told the magazine.
“I was in the dressing room like, ’Sh*t! You’re another woman comic, c’mon!’”
