Drag artists attacked after performing at Pride fundraiser

A number of drag performers were assaulted this week after performing at a Pride event.

Drag king Parker Perry, AKA Lila Hadway, was assaulted after performing at a Pride fundraiser in Olympia, Washington.

Capital City Pride reports that assailants approached Hadway, her wife and a transgender friend, calling them homophobic and transphobic slurs.

She was left with a concussion, broken teeth, loss of visions and lacerations to her face by the attack, while her friend - who does not want to be identified - was hit repeatedly in the face by assailants.

Hadway told local news outlet KOMO : "I was like 'hey can we just leave this alone?'

"The guy said you look like a man so I'm going to fight you like a man. So he walked up and blasted me twice in the left side of my face."

A crowdfunding appeal says: "Lila will need surgery for a full dental extraction and denture implants. Be advised: the attacker is still at large.

"Lila and her wife, Angela, are very well known in the drag circuit & both donate much of their time and energy to raise money for LGBTQ non-profits Like Capital City Pride.

"This hate crime assault will affect Lila, Angela & their 3 children for the rest of their lives. The effect is not just physical or financial – hate crime takes away your sense of safety and security. It rocks your world."

Police are aware of the incident, but no arrests have been made.
