Veteran actor Derek Jacobi appeared to pop the question to his 'Vicious' co-star Sir Ian McKellen on the announcement of the SCOTUS ruing on same-sex marriage.
Yesterday the Supreme Court issued an opinion that all couples in the US, straight or gay, have a constitutional right to marry.
The pair appeared in a video uploaded to Facebook by BuzzFeed, backed by Queen's 'We Are The Champions', throwing confetti onto a rainbow flag.
In it, Sir Ian says: "Well done Supreme Court, about time - glad you've joined the rest of us. Terrific! Well done! Get married everybody!"
At which point Derek Jacobi asks: "Will you marry me?"
Sir Ian responds quickly: "I will, and now I can!"
Last month , Sir Ian spoke about having a crush on his co-star and long time friend when they were at university in Cambridge together.
They play an older gay couple in the ITV sitcom Vicious.
He said: “Yes, I did fancy Derek, but I didn’t act on it, God, no. It was illegal, remember.
“What there was was a bit sleazy, I suspect. One of the reasons I became an actor was that you could meet gay people.”
Sir Derek Jacobi spoke about coming out to his mother, who declared his sexuality “a phase” .
Sir Ian will appear in the upcoming film Mr Holmes , playing detective Sherlock Holmes as an elderly man.
