Taylor Schilling drew blood filming OITNB sex scene

Orange is the New Black star Taylor Schilling says she injured herself while filming a scene for the new series.

In series 3 of the Netflix show, her character Piper Chapman has a steamy encounter with old flame Alex Vause - played by Laura Prepon - in the laundry room.

Appearing on the Seth Myers chat show, Ms Schilling said: "I hurt myself. I got very excited, I took my shirt off, and I scratched myself with my little prison name tag.

"I had, like, a gash on my face.

"We had to take an hour-long pause because I saw blood. It was raw."

She said she still found filming sex scenes uncomfortable: "It's weird. You've got a lot of people watching."

This season of the show has seen for viewers fall for new cast member  Ruby Rose , who said recently she "wasn't expecting" to turn the entire into lesbians.

She said : "I have a couple of friends who don’t feel very warm towards it… [but ] my sense is definitely more lighthearted and neutral on it.

"I think people are just saying that to be complimentary. I don’t think anyone’s doing it to be derogatory or to take away from what it really means to come out and identify as a different sexuality than what people will think you are.”
