US: San Francisco gay man dies of injuries sustained in attack

A gay man who was attacked near San Francisco's Castro neighbourhood earlier this week has died from his injuries.

Bryan Higgins, also known as Feather Lynn, was found around 7 a.m. on Sunday morning by passersby on a San Francisco street.

Police officials did not know who Feather was, leading them to release a photo of Feather to the public via social media to aid in their investigation.

In the photo, Feather is shown in a hospital gown, unconscious, and hooked up to life support.

Feather was taken off of life support on Wednesday and later died, prompting a murder investigation.

Police told a local NBC affiliate that they do not know a motive for the attack, or if the attack was a hate crime.

Police do have security video footage of the attack, saying the suspect is a white male in his 20s or 30s wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt.

Feather was a member of the Radical Faeries, a subset of gay men who believe there is a spiritual connection to their sexuality, and a known gay rights activist in the San Fransisco area.

Feather's friend Justime told the NBC affiliate: "He had a huge impact on the entire LGBTQ community here in San Francisco and the Bay Area, but especially within the Radical Faeries.”

This week, an unidentified trans woman was attacked in a New York City subway station, and the attack was caught on film.
The New York Police Department is currently looking for two suspects in connection with an anti-gay attack against a Bronx woman.
